On November 5th, Plymouth, Canton, and Northville voters will be asked to decide who should be their next judge at the 35th District Court (our local court). I am hopeful that you will decide that I fit that bill.
Dedication to our community and experience does matter. I have lived in the same house in our community for nearly 3 decades. At the same time, I worked here as a private practice attorney in the same Main Street office in downtown Plymouth.
As some of you may recall, I narrowly lost an election for 35th District Court Judge in 2008. Although a tough loss hurt at the time, I pledged to continue to work hard for the place I call home. I kept a quote from our local newspaper where I congratulated my opponent and pledged that I would work tirelessly for the betterment of our community, both as a resident and a small business owner. I am proud to say that I kept my pledge from 16 years ago and have worked hard to fulfill that obligation.
I have never stopped serving our residents as a “Main Street” lawyer and supporter of so many worthwhile causes. I have lived, worked, and raised my family in this community. However, I have always believed I could best serve our residents as a fair and impartial jurist on our local community court.
I am the only candidate who has lived and worked in this community for nearly 3 decades, handling nearly 400 more cases at our court than my opponent (417 compared to only 7). Our next judge must show judicial temperament and impartiality and not be beholden to any political idealogy. This is especially true in our current times. I also firmly believe that our next judge should have a proven track record of legal experience at the court they wish to serve, as well as involvement in the community in which they live. I believe I have demonstrated both.
Thank you for stopping by. Feel free to contact me directly should you wish to learn more about me or my campaign.
I hope to earn your vote on November 5th!
Joe Barone
Since he opened his law practice on Main Street in Plymouth 27 years ago, Joe has vowed to do whatever he could to make our community the best place to live and raise a family. He has served on Boards of Directors, raised funds for worthy causes, and has devoted his life and livelihood for the betterment of our community. He proudly served as Wayne County Commissioner from 2015-2018 and was a past recipient of the “Business Person of the Year” award for the Canton Chamber of Commerce.
For 27 years and counting, Joe has lived and practiced law right here in our community, including extensively at the 35th District Court. He has handled hundreds of civil and criminal cases, served as an interim prosecutor, and was a frequent guest speaker at the court. His jury trial success rate is 97%, indicating Joe is very adept at reaching people on a personal level. No other candidate comes close to the experience Joe has at the 35th District Court.
Of the candidates in this race, Joe has the most years of formal education, having obtained his Master of Laws degree in addition to his undergraduate and Juris Doctorate degrees. A very small percentage of attorneys obtain this advanced post-doctoral degree.
B.A. Michigan State University-Eli Broad School of Business (1993)
J.D. Cooley Law School (1996)
LL.M. Wayne State University Law School (2004)
Our next Judge should demonstrate a strong commitment to our local communities. Joe is a firm believer in being involved with the Plymouth, Canton, and Northville communities. He lives in and works here and has called it home for decades. He is the proud father of two beautiful daughters, Olivia (21) and Isabelle (19). Olivia is a graduate of Father Gabriel Richard High School and Michigan State University and will be attending law school this fall. Isabelle is a graduate of Divine Child High School and just completed her freshman year at Michigan State (Lyman Briggs College). She hopes to enter the healthcare field soon.
