Meet Joe
Joe Barone attended Michigan State University, Cooley Law School and Wayne State University Law School. In 1996, he began looking for places to open his law practice and fell in love with the Plymouth, Canton and Northville area. Joe opened his law practice in Plymouth in 1997 and has been a community stalwart ever since helping thousands of local people with their legal needs. Through hard work and community involvement, he built a thriving “Main Street” law practice and continues to do so today.
Family and community are top priorities for Joe. He believes a strong and vibrant community is the cornerstone to build loving and happy families. Joe believes public service can be a catalyst to buidling stronger communities.
Serving nearly four years as County Commissioner (a county legislator) affirmed his belief that his true passion was serving our community as a local judge. Throughout his 27 years of practice, he made sure he was well trained in all areas that would potentially come before him as a district court judge. He has built an excellent reputation with judges, lawyers, and community leaders.
He is the very proud dad of two beautiful adult daughters, Olivia and Isabelle. Olivia recently graduated from Michigan State University and will be attending law school in the fall. Isabelle completed her first year at Michigan State University in the Lyman Briggs College and is hopeful to enter the healthcare field.
When he’s not practicing law, Joe loves to run, downhill ski, and spend summers on the water with his family and friends.

Over the past 27 years, I have built a thriving Main Street Law practice in downtown Plymouth. I have represented local clients in many different legal matters in state and federal courts throughout Michigan. I have extensive experience practicing in the 35th District Court as well as most of the local courts in our area. I have an advanced law degree, which requires a full additional year of legal studies on top of the normal 3-year program. I have focused my practice on specific areas of law to help me serve you as your judge.
I live and work in our community and have volunteered much of my time for the betterment of the Plymouth, Canton, and Northville communities. Our next judge must be educated, hardworking, and committed to making our community the best place to live. We need a judge who is personable, compassionate, and fair yet committed to the safety of our citizens.
As our next judge, I will work tirelessly to achieve these goals. I ask for your support on November 5th.

Joe received his undergraduate degree from the Eli Broad School of Business at Michigan State University in 1993. His area of concentration was Materials and Logistics Management. After finishing summer internships with General Motors, Joe decided to follow his dream of becoming a lawyer and ultimately pursuing his dream of becoming a judge.

Juris Doctor
Joe received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1996 from Thomas Cooley Law School in Lansing. To partially pay for his education, Joe worked for a non-profit housing center offering free legal assistance to tenants who were unable to afford legal counsel. He received one of only two A's in the District Court Practice class. He successfully passed the Illinois Bar Examination and the Michigan Bar Examination.

Joe pursued an advanced law degree which requires an additional one year of law school study beyond the normal 3 year program. He received his LL.M. (Master of Laws) from Wayne State University in 2004.
Experience
For 27 years, Joe has been a private practice attorney in downtown Plymouth. He started his practice with the notion that a long time ago when people needed an attorney, they would head to town and visit their local attorney. He believed that the concept of your “local attorney” is still in high demand. He built his practice on a shoestring budget and a whole lot of ambition. Through the years, he has developed a thriving Main Street Practice.
Joe has extensive experience practicing in district and circuit courts. He appears regularly at the 35th District Court and has built an excellent reputation among the judges, lawyers, and court staff.
95% of Joe’s clients are from Plymouth, Canton, or Northville, the exact communities that make up the 35th District. He has developed an excellent reputation for being a caring and compassionate attorney. The cases that come before a district court judge involve civil cases below $25,000, landlord-tenant matters, and criminal misdemeanors. Joe has represented hundreds of clients in district court cases.
